On behalf of the Friends of Ward 2D, we hope your journey through the website will enlighten you on the work our group does to benefit the patients in Ward 2D. Dear Friend, We are voluntary group composed mainly of family and friends of past patients of 2D Ward in Cork University Hospital. Our mission is to provide friendship and support to the patients of the ward and their families. We have experienced the difficulties of having a loved one in this isolation ward suffering from either leukaemia, a blood disorder or as a result of a major burns injury. In conjunction with the ward staff, we aim to bring a little joy and thus alleviate some of the stress for a short while if possible. Ward 2D caters for patients from the age of 14 upward. To this end we:- • Provide short breaks away for patients and their families • Organise visits from leading sports and entertainment personalities. Celebrity Patrons to charity Damien Richardson and Pascal Scott of Killnascully. • Provide some financial assistance with accommodation expenses for patient's families. • Provide financial assistance with purchasing hair pieces. • We have purchased equipment to enhance patient's life while on the ward, such as TVs, DVDs, fridges, games and comfortable armchairs for the patient rooms, as well as laptops and a selection of daily newspapers, books and DVDs which are available on request. • We have opened a day room within the ward for patient's use. • Friends of Ward 2D visit patients with gifts. All support is given in the strictest of confidence. We fundraise ourselves and provide support for others who may wish to help with funding these and many more of our activities. No fundraising events are to be pursued without permission from Friends of Ward 2D and Garda permit granted. Among our benefactors is the Naval College in Haulbowline who adopted the ward in 1998. Please note: Friends of Ward 2D accept no liability for loss, damage or injury suffered by any person as a result of fund raising activities.
